Maxwell Lofts/ Milwaukee, WI

The renovation of Maxwell Lofts shows the evolution of an industrial glass-manufacturing facility into market-rate lofts. Continuum was successful in getting the nine-building campus listed with State and National historic preservation offices.  This renovation includes 110 market-rate apartments, and six luxury penthouse units. The buildings’ original purpose for industrial manufacturing makes laying out units a challenge, but enables creation of unique floor plans and character within each space.

Modern kitchens and spa-like bathrooms are grouped in a central installation within each unit. The block form of this grouping creates a floating low-height cube within the tall, historic space. These apartments introduce user-oriented progressions through the space that are distinguished by different atmospheric characters – a play of the new amid historical elements.
