This underutilized vacant school site was master planned to be converted into a thriving community and neighborhood asset.
The redevelopment comprised two-story stacked flat apartments, townhomes, with an integrated community service organization that will foster healthy living for residents by advocating work and use of a community garden. The architectural design respects the scale of the established residential neighborhood. Community gardens are provided as a resource for onsite and neighborhood residents.
The site was envisioned to be developed with high-density apartments built in two phases. The project required PUD approval from the City of Milwaukee for zoning and development standards. It was slated to utilize LIHTC from WHEDA to create a variety of affordable housing options within the neighborhood.
