The 9th and 10th floors of the Engineering department were re-designed to house two engineering research lab clusters, each to support four primary investigators in private offices and their supporting graduate students in adjacent work areas. The lab spaces are intended to be flexible for a wide range of current and future research activities. All furnishing and worktables are moveable, and lab gasses and power services are fed from ceiling umbilicals to support this flexibility. Fume hoods and sinks are provided with the full range of gas, water, and power services to allow complete interchangeability of use. The intention is that the 9th floor will be used for dry lab activities and the 10th floor for wet lab activities but both floors are similarly outfitted to allow future reassignment allowing UWM the flexibility for a wide variety of research activities.
